THE CLOWN’S TRUNK
An
introduction to the ancient art of clowning. A steamer trunk like those used by
circus clowns in their traveling days, will be opened to reveal a magical world
of fun and laughter. Discover the types of clowns, what they do and see a
“regular person” become a clown before your very eyes. This class has been
successfully used in summer library programs and schools as well as in the
lecture setting. Perfect for beginner workshops.
PUPPETS ARE PEOPLE TOO !!
Well,
not really . . . but don’t tell that to the puppet. During this lecture, learn
how to use puppets to enhance your performance. Develop an understanding of the
importance of good ‘hand/mouth’ coordination, eye contact and body movement.
Bring your puppet to life by presenting a believable character. Create the
“perfect Performing partner”. If you have a puppet bring it. Have one you don’t
use? Bring it! Don’t have a puppet? Use your socks! (seriously).
“HEY CLOWN,
DO SOMETHING FUNNY”
This
class focuses on the aspects of entertaining when there is not an organized
program or schedule or during a “meet and greet” situation. Also covered will
be issues of proper clown etiquette when working in direct contact with your
audience. Thinking on your feet, good recovery, and maintaining control are
some of the topics we will cover.
GETTING THE LAST LAUGH
People
expect clowns to be funny. Different
performing venues require various types of comedy. This class will look at comic devices to
enhance your performance. Some well
known techniques include timing, repetition, and exaggeration. We will look at these as well as some lesser
known types which may be just what you need to polish your performance.
JUST DESERTS PIES
The
art of pie throwing unfolds before you.
This hands-on class will touch on the history, technique and creation of
pies. Then we will move on to the use of
pie throwing in clown routines and give it a try. This class is guaranteed to be good clean fun
and maybe a little messy.
THE J.O.Y. OF CLOWNING
The
clown may be a valuable tool in ministry.
Remembering the order –Jesus, Others, You (JOY) and keeping your program
focused in order to direct your audience to the message of the gospel is the
basis for this lecture. Learn how to use
appropriate comedy as well as storytelling, magic and more to give clear
examples of Biblical truths.
SKITS ‘R’ US
Join
in on creating an original skit. Learn
how to develop ideas and put together a sketch that is fresh and funny. We will take ideas from those attending and
formulate an introduction, body, and blow off (outcome) to set everyone
laughing. Be ready to get those creative
juices flowing.
I CAN'T MAKE-UP MY MIND
Are you faced with the
challenge of creating a workable make-up design? This is the perfect class to get you heading
in the right direction. Learn new
application techniques and proper color usage, and revisit the traditional
methods as well. The three basic types
of clowns will be explored and how they apply to you and your character. Bring what make-up supplies you have and
don’t forget your clown nose.
SUDDEN BURSTS OF GRAVITY
Juggling…one of those skills
people believe requires natural coordination and months of practice. In fact, juggling is quite simple. In this class you’ll learn juggling and other
related skills. The “secrets of success”
will be explained, making it possible for anyone to perform the basics. Develop a new skill and exercise your mind
(positive attitudes) and your body (oops you dropped it) at the same time.
